The Pa State Construction Code requires a building permit for any above-ground swimming pool 24 inches or higher. The pool permit process also includes the installation of a 48 inch high fence to secure the pool. A pool that is 48 inches or higher and has a locking ladder may not be required to install a fence. That decision is up to the building inspector. All in-ground pools require pool permits, fences and in some cases alarms on house doors that allow direct access to the pool.
There is no such thing as a temporary pool. If it is installed even for a short period time and is 24 inches or over, it requires a permit. Pool retailers are giving you false information if they tell you no permit is required. This includes pools with blow up or water filled side walls.
No pool, even with a proper permit, is allowed to be placed in the front yard of a home. Failure to immediately remove an illegal pool may result in civil penalties including up to $1,000. fine per day. If you need assistance regarding a pool permit, please contact the Permit Office.
Our Soldier Campaign for sending care packages needs your support! Our country still has deployed troops overseas and we need to communicate encouragement and express gratitude to the brave men and women serving our nation. We have 4 men deployed overseas from the area.
Ideas include tuna in pouches, hot chocolate, popcorn, instant oatmeal and soups, small boxes of cereal, snack bars, cookies, granola bars, energy bars, Tastykakes or Little Debbie's, wrapped hard candy, chewing gum, lip balm, dental floss, foot/boot powder, wet ones, DVD movies, zip-lock bags for their personal items and anything you can think of that our soldiers would enjoy over the upcoming holidays.
Reminder to residents that if you know of someone or have a soldier in your family and would like care packages mailed to them, please let us know. Remember, the Holidays are coming and our Soldiers need some "goodies" from home.
